Hope House of Arizona’s Transitional Living Center (TLC) provides dormitory style housing for youth 21-24 who have aged out of foster care or are experiencing homelessness due to unforeseen family circumstances. This also includes youth whose families are unable to provide care due to moving to another state, parental illness, incarceration, or any other sound reason. These youth either have not connected with a permanent family, or do not have a healthy family support, and ultimately do not have a safe place to live. Youth receive temporary housing, as well as academic support, assistance in pursuing post-secondary education, life skills training, leadership development, and job training. Youth must be motivated to create change in their life and be willing to address the challenges and issues that resulted in their homelessness, while also making a commitment to work towards self-sufficiency.

Serenity House is designed to promote a sense of community while providing support and encouragement as youth transition toward independent living. Serenity House staff will work with residents to identify and set short and long-term goals, arrange for supportive services, and develop the skills and connections necessary for independent living. Services are designed to complement the youth’s own efforts toward becoming self-sufficient and focuses on ensuring that they are prepared for lifelong independence. Residents will have access to resources to increase their ability to succeed, both academically and professionally, while also receiving the assistance and training necessary for a successful transition into adulthood.

Residents of Serenity House are required to actively participate in required training, maintain healthy and adequate living quarters, observe curfews, sign in and out, and either work, go to school, or serve as a volunteer. Each resident is expected to abide by all house rules, show respect to all staff, and respect other residents. Additionally, each resident will be required to complete monthly community service hours as part of the program. This enables them to give back to the community and help make a difference in the lives of others.
